ForewordCommunity Medicine has evolved as a very dynamic medical science encompassing almost all specialities. It has bridged the gaps between preventive, curative, and promotive healthcare. A good understanding of this discipline makes the doctor a comprehensive physician with a social and community outlook. As our strife to control and eliminate diseases continues, we are facing more and more lifestyle-related problems. These problems not only decrease our quality of life but also pose a significant economic burden both to the individual, family, and the nation. Understanding and addressing the crux of this problem that is rooted in dietary habits, personal hygiene, environmental aspects, family dynamics, physical inactivity; substance abuse, etc. can form the basis for cost-effective public health interventions. This book focuses on clinico-social cases and highlights how understanding this aspect of community medicine can contribute to improving curative care while addressing the socio-cultural aspects of the patients. I hope that this book helps medical undergraduates and postgraduates to orient their perspective of the patient and motivate them to incorporate curative, preventive, health promotive, and rehabilitative aspects in their medical practice.
