Contemporary Indian Literary Criticism in English: Alternative Frameworks is an attempt at looking into the various kinds of critical practices that are in vogue today among critics and academicians practicing literary criticism in English in India. The book attempts to identify the several ‘schools’ of literary criticism in English in India by exploring and classifying the various issues that confront Indian literary Criticism in English today. The present book offers a ‘critique’ of these critical positions from an ‘indigenous’ and secular perspective. Basing on the assumption that Contemporary Indian Literary Criticism in English is at the ‘cross roads’ and is at pains to carve a niche of its own by decolonizing critical practice the book offers a sustained interrogation of such ventures by identifying the fault lines of these discourses. Finally the book offers a more practical alternative to these critical positions by placing them within the larger problematic of, curriculum development, student assessment and pedagogy.
