This book is designed to serve as a foundation for acompetency-based course in Advanced Hindi for students of Hindi asa Second Language. It is also appropriate for those generallyinterested in such aspects of language control as intensive readingof authentic textual materiials of literary significance, oralproduction (involving situational conversation, oral presentation,and simultaneous translation), and structured writing usingthematiic vocabulary. Such aspects of a competency-based languagecourse as advanced listening comprehension and rapid non-intensivereading can be strengthened with the use of supplementary materialsin conjunction with this textbook. Attention drawn in this book tothe structural strategies of the more productive constructions andexpressions, as well as derivational devices and collocationalconstraints peculiar to authentic Hindi texts, should also behelpful in enhancing these skills.
