Worth knowing: Pepper is a climbing plant able to grow tendrils of 10 metres length. Pepper has been used as a spice for more than 3000 years. Pepper plants do bear first fruits after 3 years and can be harvested over a period of 10 to 20 years. Harvested pepper is green, does however turn black during the drying process. The wrinkled pepper skin is the product of shrivelled fruit flesh.Origin: Indigenous to the Malabar Coast in the south-west of India.Propagation: The seeds can be started indoors at any time throughout the year. Leave the seeds to soak in water for a few hours. Then mix moist cultivation soil with 1/4 sand. Press the seeds 1 cm deep into the soil and cover them with the mixture. Place the cultivation container in a very warm location. Ideal temperatures for germination are 25° to 30°C. High humidity inside the cultivation container (spray mist) is helpful for germination.lace / Light: Being a Tropical plant, the pepper requires a very warm and partially shaded position, temperatures of 20°C and above, and high humidity. Therefore, already young plants should be sprayed now and then.Care: If you do use standard soil, it should be broken up with humus. Water evenly and fertilize weekly during the growing period.Winter period: Winter care is identical to summer care. The temperature should in any case not drop below 15°C.
