Sunglasses improve vision in bright sunlight and may protect the eyes from damage caused by high levels of ultraviolet light. Typical sunglasses lenses are tinted to protect against bright light or polarized to remove glare; UV protector glasses are clear or lightly tinted in the dark or indoors, but transform into sunglasses when exposed to ultraviolet light. The lenses of most over-the-counter sunglasses do not have corrective power; however, special prescription sunglasses can be made.
