David Copperfield is a classic novel by Charles Dickens. Summary of the Book David Copperfield’s life begins in Blunderstone, Suffolk, six months after the death of his father. When David turns seven, his mother remarries and he soon learns that he doesn’t like his step-father. Edward Murdstone is a serious man, and thrashes David for his failure to succeed at school. David is sent to a boarding school, and falls under the watchful eye of the ruthless Mr. Creakle, the Headmaster. Soon, more misfortune befalls David as his mother dies. He is shipped away to work for a wine merchant in London. When his landlord is imprisoned for debt, young Copperfield is left without any guardians, and he runs away. His only hope is to find his only relative, his unmarried, eccentric aunt Betsey Trotwood. Copperfield’s story largely mirrors Dickens’s life, and is considered to be his masterpiece, almost autobiographical in nature. About Charles Dickens Charles Dickens was an English novelist, short story writer and social critic.
