Death Benefit is yet another attempt to dig deep into the cloud of medical dramas. A tale of greed and medical malpractices, the book contains a suspenseful plot and riveting characters. Summary Of The Book Robin Cook, the master of medical tales, produces yet another medical drama with Death Benefit. The book follows the life of the protagonist Pia Grazdani. Pia is an exemplary medical student at Columbia University Medical Centre. She is ambitious and persistent, and aims to usher a whole new discovery by revolutionizing medical facilities and making replacement organs for critical patients with the help of her guide Dr. Rothman. The book details the reason behind her drive for this particular project and also throws light upon her dark and destructive childhood. Parallel to this and as contrast to her research, another aspect of the story deals with two financial investors having come up with a scam that aims to trick aged people into buying financial policies. This will enable these investors to make money off the fatal illnesses that plague their customers. Pia and her classmate, George Wilson, start investigating a tragic incident at the lab. Together, George and Pia are taken on a journey of a plethora of deaths. As they delve deeper into the mystery, the web gets even more complicated. How are the investors benefiting from their customer’s health issues? How are they acquiring certain information about their customers? Pia finds the answers behind these questions and this trail of answers also leads her close to her disturbing past. Cook has the art of combining fact and fantasy and producing novels that eventually go on to become bestsellers. He has written various other books such as Coma, Brain, Fever, Sphinx, Fatal Cure, Chromosome 6, Shock, Seizure, and Nano. He grew up in New York and graduated from Columbia University of Physicians and Surgeons. He also has a postgraduate degree from Harvard University. His book Coma was made into a successful feature film. Many of his other books have also been adapted into films and television series like Sphinx, Harmful Intent and Mortal Fear. He currently lives in Florida with his wife and son.
