The second novel of the Jack Reacher series, Die Trying was published in 1998 and contains gripping, suspenseful scenarios interspersed with an intricate plotline. Summary Of The Book Jack Reacher, a staunch ex-military cop, is the protagonist of the novel. The story commences on a bright, sunny day in Chicago, where Reacher sees a young woman having some difficulty with her crutches. Being a good samaritan, he offers to help her. His good deed results in a handgun being pointed at his torso. Helpless, he and the young woman are locked up in a dark, stifling Ford Econoline van with a woman, Holly, who is an FBI agent. While the stolen van races across America to a destination unknown to him, Reacher must analyze his situation and find a way out. The vehicle finally stops at a remote location in Montana, and Reacher and Holly are confronted by the Montana Militia, a group of militants headed by Beau Borken. While Reacher tries to make sense of this kidnapping, Holly uncovers her family history, making him realise that she is worth far more than he had imagined. The duo team up in this intense thriller to fight for their lives, pitting cunning and raw courage against hardcore violence and seemingly hopeless odds. About Lee Child Lee Child, born in 1954, is a British author and novelist. He has also authored several novels of the thriller genre like A Wanted Man, The Affair, Gone Tomorrow, Persuader, One Shot, Without Fail, 61 Hours, and Echo Burning among others, and numerous short stories. Born in Coventry, England, Child studied law at Sheffield University in 1974, after which he dabbled in commercial television. After losing his job due to corporate restructuring, he began writing full-time and published his first book, Killing Floor in 1997, which was an instant success, winning the Anthony Award and the Barry Award. Child was also the President of the Mystery Writers of America in 2009. He currently lives with his wife, Jane, and they divide their time between their Manhattan apartment and their country house in France.
