About The Authors Benjamin McLane Spock, born in 1903, was an acclaimed American paediatrician and author, popularly considered to be one of the best-known child care experts. He has authored The Common Sense Book of Baby and Child Care and Dr. Spock on Vietnam. Born in Connecticut, Spock studied Literature and History at Yale University. He was also a part of a rowing team that won the gold at the 1924 Olympics. He went on to study at the Yale School of Medicine for two years before transferring to Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons. He was married twice, first to Jane Cheney and thereafter to Mary Morgan. He died in 1998 in his home in California. Dr. Robert Needlman, born in Chicago, is an American paediatrician and an author. He has authored Dr. Spock’s Baby Basics. He graduated from Yale University and procured his MD from Yale Medical School. He founded ‘Reach Out and Read’, a project to promote reading aloud, and is currently working at The Dr. Spock Company as Vice President of developmental and behavioural paediatrics.
