A graduate of Columbia University, Dr. Bloch obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University. His dissertation was awarded the ACM Distinguished Doctoral Dissertation Award. The current title won Dr. Bloch the 2001 Jolt Award.
