The Brahma Sutras, along With the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita, form the triple canon the prasthana traya—of the spiritual tradition of India. A study of Shankaracharya's great commentaries on them is indispensable for all students of Vedanta. This volume presents a reliable translation of Shankara's great commentary on the Brahma Sutras. Some of the special features of this translation are that the translator has given word-for-wordS meaning of each aphorism under its Sanskrit text followed by a running translation with additional words in brackets for clarification. The translation is generally based on the Ratnaprabha though the Nyayannimaya and the Bhamati have been occasionally consulted. This book presents a lucid exposition of select portions of this Upanishad in the light of modem thought and modem needs. The Revered Swami has done this by freely drawing from contemporary scientific thought, biology, and physics, and by laying stress on the relevance of Vedantic ideas to these areas of modem thought.
