You already know us (Electronic Design, by Savant/Roden/Carpenter) as the extremely successful design-oriented electronics text that has been a catalyst to effective electrical engineering and electrical engineering technology education since it was first issued in 1986. The book has been treasured by students and faculty at over 155 US schools, and its many translations have been used throughout the world. The Best Text for the 21st Century!!! The text has now evolved into THE electronics text for the 21st century. We've paid attention to all of our reviewers and to the many current users who have responded to our surveys. The result is a text that has retained the numerous positive features of the earlier editions, while incorporating many innovations. The result will position our graduates for success in the 21st century. The text includes free software (on a CD). Faculty have access to innovative adjuncts including problem sets on disk and figures ready to insert in PowerPoint presentations. Other Innovations The Fourth Edition completely updates information including data sheets. We have also made mechanical changes to make the text more readable. The page size has been increased, and every figure has been redrawn to improve clarity. Our text layout, while not the most economical in terms of our labor and space efficiency, is carefully chosen to assist the student. This includes larger type and more logical figure placement. At no additional cost, we are including the Student Edition of MicroCap 7. The latest version of this popular SPICE-based software performs mixed analog and digital processing. A manual, previously made available only to instructors, is now on the CD included with each book. Our instructional adjuncts stress utility rather than quantity. As one example, we offer problem sets to instructors in word processor formats. Faculty can "cut and paste" and/or modify problems to structure assignments and exams for students. Retained from Earlier Editions We have retained many of the outstanding qualities of the first two editions of this text that have helped to make them a success. These can be used to create transparency masters, or to develop PowerPoint presentations. A Laboratory Manual is available separately from the publishers. It is keyed to sections of the book. It is distributed at no charge to faculty adopting the text. Permission is granted to duplicate any part of the manual for class use.
