A compilation of practically everything that goes into engineering electromagnetics, this book is an excellent resource for anyone doing anything related to this topic. Summary Of The Book This book is written particularly for students of engineering and is meant to serve as a textbook and a guide for most engineering courses which have anything to do with electromagnetics. Electromagnetics is a key field of study in many kinds of engineering like electrical engineering and also plays a role in almost every other kind of engineering ranging from mechanical to chemical engineering. One will encounter everything from electricity and magnetism to the photoelectric effect in this field of study. The book is divided into two parts and covers almost every relevant topic in Electromagnetics. The first chapter is about Vectors and Fields and has topics like The Electric Field, Cartesian Coordinate System, The Magnetic Field, and Scalar and Vector Fields. The second chapter Maxwell’s equation in Integral Form consists of The Line Integral, Ampere’s Circuital Law, Faraday’s Law, and Application to Static Fields. Maxwell’s Equations in Differential Form, and Uniform Plane Waves in Free Space is the third chapter and consists of topics like Curl and Divergence, Faraday’s Law and Ampere’s Circuital Law, and Polarization of Sinusoidally Time-Varying Vector Fields. Fields and Waves in Material Media is the fourth chapter and consists of Magnetic Materials, Boundary Conditions, Dielectrics, and Reflection and Transmission of Uniform Plane Waves. The other topics such as Electronics and Photonics, Communications, Radiation, Antennae, and Guided Wave Principles are also discussed in this book. There is also a section titled ‘Why Study Electromagnetics’ which attempts to set the student on the right track right from the get go to ease the learning process - this section clearly positions the study of electromagnetics in the larger framework of engineering. As a textbook and guide to electromagnetics, this book has received very positive reviews and has been made a standard textbook for many engineering courses throughout the world. About Nannapaneni Narayana Rao Dr. Rao is an Indian born, American engineer and author. The other book that he has written is Basic Electromagnetics With Applications. He has written many research papers and journals, and few of them are, Lunar Tidal Variations in the Ionospheric Layers, Total Ionospheric Electron Content at Houghton, Michigan, Comparison of Faraday and Doppler Methods of Obtaining Ionospheric Electron Content, and many more. He graduated with a B.Sc. degree in 1952 from the University of Madras and went on to earn a Diploma in Electronics from the Madras Institute of technology in 1955. He received his Masters degree and Ph.D. from the University of Washington. He then went on to lead a distinguished academic career teaching in many universities in America and received numerous awards for his work such as the Gnana Ratna award, AT&T Foundation award for excellence in instruction, IEEE technical field award in undergraduate teaching and was elected as a Fellow of IEEE.
