Jane Austen tells the story of a matchmaker who will yet discover that love isn’t so easily trifled with. Emma is a classic romance novel imbued with Austen’s comic style, late eighteenth century social commentary and all the ups and downs of the matters of the heart. Summary of the Book Emma has always played around with the hearts of her friends. She believes she’s a great matchmaker, immune to her own games. However, when she tries to make a local vicar announce his feelings for her new friend, Harriet Smith, she is about to discover that she’s misread his intentions. The vicar doesn’t have feelings for Harriet, in fact, his attention is on another candidate, one who is wholly oblivious to his mind. When up against her own games, what can Emma do? This is a humorous spin on the comedy of manners genre, spanning the cultures of the genteel women living in Georgian-Regency England. About Jane Austen Jane Austen was an English novelist who is best remembered for her works of romance. She has also written Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility and Mansfield Park. Emma was adapted into a 1996 American comedy starring Gwyneth Paltrow.
