About Alex Rutherford Alex Rutherford is the pen name of the husband and wife duo, Michael Preston and Diana Preston. Diana Preston is a broadcaster, author, historian and academic. Preston has also written A First Rate Tragedy: Robert Falcon Scott and the Race to the South Pole, Cleopatra and Antony, Besieged in Peking: The Story of the 1900 Boxer Rising, The Human Chain Reaction from Marie Curie to Hiroshima and Before the Fall-Out. Preston was a modern history student at Oxford University and worked as a travel and feature writer for national magazines and newspapers in the UK. She has also reviewed books for The Los Angeles Times and The Wall Street Journal. She has also worked for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and BBC as a broadcaster and has also appeared in television documentaries. She is also a recipient of the LA Times Book Prize. Michael Preston is a historian and traveler. Preston has also co-authored A Teardrop on the Cheek of Time and A Pirate of Exquisite Mind. Preston studied English at Oxford University. Being a historian and avid globetrotter, he has travelled extensively across Asia, Antarctica and Africa with his wife Diana.
