The need to instill responsibility throughout organizations is pervasive throughout business. " This book provides a game plan for navigating the journey to empowerment by defining three essential keys to success and by helping readers understand the challenges and paradoxes inherent in transforming an organization. A new introduction included in the second edition details what the authors have learned about empowerment since the book was first published in 1996 and addresses head-on the concern that empowerment is a bygone fad. The authors explain that many new words (like entrepreneurship, ownership, involvement, etc. ) are being touted as new approaches to tapping people’s potential contribution. But the core concept still comes back to empowerment—recognizing the skills, experience, knowledge and motivation within people and releasing that energy to focus it on organizational results.
