McCarthy is currently employed as the Emeritus Professor of Applied Linguistics at the University of Nottingham. He also serves as an adjunct Professor of Applied Linguistics at the University of Limerick, Ireland, and Pennsylvania State University. Felicity O’Dell is a writer and teacher. She has also written English Collocations in Use Advanced, Games for Vocabulary Practice: Interactive Vocabulary Activities for All Levels, CAE Writing Skills, English Panorama 1: A Course for Advanced Learners, and Advanced Trainer Six Practice Tests Without Answers.
