This book is based on a Ph.D. research, on assessment of environmental pressure through calculating carbon, water and lifestyle material footprint. The researcher was incited to undertake this research because " Human activities are negatively affecting the environment". Gravity of the problem is such that the governments of all the nations are working on protecting the environment, they have made number of policies for this. There are various world forums, international and national agencies too working on protecting environment. The movement of environment protection is around thirty years old now. Environment protection is a huge agenda and a continuous process so it can not be handled by simply making policies and laws or by only government initiatives, it demands enormous public participation too. The participation without knowledge, awareness and sensitivity towards environment cannot give desired results. Hence increasing knowledge and awareness and sensitizing the matter is a precursor to any change. Further the strong plan of action, with comprehensive situational analysis and answerability can also not be ignored. It was with this objective in mind, the present research was conducted where household's carbon, water and lifestyle material footprint was calculated to see exactly how choices of households in homes and purchases, impact on environmental resources. The present empirical research has given an estimate of how much carbon emission occurs to sustain lives, amount of water households take to keep their daily lives afloat and similarly how much material is required for maintaining their chosen lifestyle. In the final stage of research then various guidelines have been developed with the objective to make the households more judicious in using environmental resources in order to protect the environment.
