The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) Exam is a national level examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission. The exam is conducted for the recruitment of candidates for various posts such as Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC), Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant (PA/SA), Data Entry Operator (DEO), and Court Clerk in various government departments and ministries.The SSC CHSL exam is conducted in three stages - Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III. Tier I is a computer-based examination that consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and is used to shortlist candidates for the Tier II exam. Tier II is a descriptive type test that is conducted in pen and paper mode. Candidates who clear Tier II are eligible to appear for Tier III which is a skill test or typing test.The Tier I exam comprises four sections: General Intelligence, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and General Awareness. The exam duration is 60 minutes and the total number of questions is 100, with each question carrying two marks. There is negative marking of 0.5 marks for each wrong answer.The Tier II exam is a descriptive test consisting of essay writing and letter/application writing. The duration of the exam is 60 minutes and the maximum marks are 100.The Tier III exam is a skill test or typing test. Candidates who have applied for the post of Data Entry Operator will have to undergo a typing test, while candidates who have applied for other posts will have to undergo a skill test.Candidates who clear all three stages of the SSC CHSL exam will be selected for the various posts in government departments and ministries.
