About The Book : It is a matter of gratification to me to mention here that when Dr. B. P. Mookerjec, former Vice-Chancellor of the Calcutta University, was approached for help and advice, he so very graciously and kindly consented to get it published by the University ; and its out come is the present monograph. The book consists of two parts. In the first part, the author after giving a general description of the area deals with the various phenomena that he observed during the freezing and the melting of the lakes—Manasarovar and Rakshas Tal. The crevasse, locally known as mayur, along the edge of which blocks of ice are piled up, is a peculiar surface feature of Manasarovar when it freezes. About The Author : Swami Pranavananda (1896-1941) also known as Yugacaryya Srimat Svami Praṇavananda Ji Maharaja, was a Hindu yogi and saint who founded a not-for-profit and spiritual organization known as the Bharat Sevashram Sangha. He is remembered for his pioneering efforts to bring the modern Hindu society into the new age without compromising the essential values of ancient traditions of Hindu spirituality.
