Fall Of Giants is a historical epic following the lives of five families across three major events in the 20th century. The book begins with the life of Billy Williams, a 13-year-old boy who starts working in the mining pits in Wales. The novel then moves three years ahead in time to the aristocrat Earl Teddy “Fitz” Fitzherbert, who is responsible for licensing land in this Welsh town. After having experienced rejection in love, a young American man Gus Dewar moves onto a new job as a close advisor to President Woodrow Wilson and gets invited to a party at Fitz’s house. Walter von Ulrich, a German nobleman who falls in love with Fitz’s liberal sister, Lady Maud Fitzherbert, is present at the same party. The readers are then introduced to two orphaned brothers from Russia, Grigori and Lev Peshkov, who come to this town to seek revenge. The story unfolds as the lives of these five families continue to entangle in a labyrinth. From the luxurious palaces in America to the dangerous coal mines of Russia, Fall Of Giants captures the contrasting and fluctuating fortunes of people and empires.
