The children in his family were warm and affectiote, and because they received their early education at home, they had lots of freedom to explore the tural environment around them. He had a keen eye for observation of birds and other animals because of his early love of the tural world. As he claims that many of the magnificent tural locations he knew as a boy are now permanently lost due to the expansion of agriculture, an elegiac tone is set. Despite the fact that this book was written 100 years ago, the author's views about the elimition of tural places still hold true today. An intriguing autobiography from 1918 describes a boy's childhood in the pampas (plains) of Argenti. The boy never loses his love for ture and eventually comes to have a mystical connection to it, despite engaging in all the cruel things young boys do while growing up in a remote area with older brothers. This book is the author's memoir from his time spent working in the fields of Argenti.
