Fathers and Sons is a classical Russian novel by Ivan Turgenev. Summary of the Book Bazarov journeys from school to his friend Arkady Kirsanov’s home. Bazarov is a gifted young man who has little patience. He clashes with the people in the house, owing largely to his disdain for authority and social conventions. He sparks off quarrels, misunderstandings and romantic confusion in the Kirsanov household. A satire of Russian tradition, a portrayal of social upheaval and a picture of generational conflict, this novel has won the recognition of writers such as Flaubert, Maupassant, and Henry James for its psychological insight. About Ivan Turgenev Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev was a Russian short story writer, playwright and novelist. He is also known for a short story collection entitled A Sportsman's Sketches. This book was adapted by Canadian playwright George F. Walker into a play entitled Nothing Sacred.
