There are over 1500 species of Begonias which belong to the Begoniaceae family. They are native to Asia, Africa and Central and South America, but most of them grow in equatorial countries. Begonia produces single and double blooms which are showy and available in various colours, with delicate and smooth petals. These flowers are easy to grow and do well in the shade. The nomenclature of begonias can be very complex and confusing. The term 'picotee' refers to edging on the petals that is in contrast to the colour of the main petal if the colours blend. If they do not, then the term 'marinate' is used, but sometimes these terms are used simultaneously. On-Stop refers to a camellia tuberous hybrid that under certain conditions will bloom 'non-stop' all year round.
