Summary Of The Book Fiesta: The Sun Also Rises is based on a group of British and American expatriates who travel to the Festival of San Fermin, Pamplona, to witness bulls running and bullfights. The protagonist of this novel is Jake Barnes, who is an expatriate American journalist who currently resides in Paris. During a war, Jake suffered from a wound that’s now left him impotent. He soon falls in love with a twice-divorced woman, Lady Brett Ashley, who has had several love affairs in the past. Jake meets up with Robert, his college friend at a café, where the two play tennis. Jake gets hold of a prostitute and bumps into Brett and Count Mippipopolous at a club. Despite Brett confessing her love to Jake, both know they aren’t capable of sustaining their relationship. Jake, along with Bill Gorton travel to meet Robert Cohn for a fishing trip at Bayonne. Till a few weeks earlier, Cohn was having an affair with Brett. After Jake and Bill finish fishing, they start drinking heavily in Pamplona. The five, including Brett’s fiancé, Mike Campbell, resent Cohn’s presence, taunting him with anti-semitic comments. They enjoy drinking, attending bullfights, and bickering with each other during the fiesta. Jake then introduces Brett to Romero, who is a 19-year old matador. Brett is smitten by the young lad and seduces him. The jealousy among the four men begins to increase, as Jake, Romero, Mike, and Campbell, love Brett. Cohn, a former college-level boxer, fists up the remaining three. Romero is yet able to perform well in the bullring, despite being injured. After the fiesta is over, each of them return to their hometown.
