The relationship between literature and film has been an affair that has existed for years. This book talks about this relationship in the Indian context which involves three for the most iconic figures that have had an impact on Indian literature and cinema: Rabindranath Tagore, Premchand, and Satyajit Ray. It is divided into three sections with the first describing the issues that crop up while making film adaptation of novels. The second focuses on Satyajit Ray’s adaption of two of Rabindranath Tagore’s novels. The third section discusses Ray’s adaptation of two of Premchand’s stories in Shatranj ke Khilari and Sadgati.
