Flour Babies is a day school novel for young adults, written by bestselling author Anne Fine. The story revolves around a group science experiment in a classroom full of underachievers. Summary of the Book As part of a Child Development project, each boy in Class 4C is given with a flour baby to take care of for three weeks. The flour baby is a 3 kg sack of flour which must be looked after by the students, ensuring it is perfect condition. Simon Martin is the protagonist of the story who becomes unusually attached to his flour baby. Simon whose dad left home when Simon was just six weeks old, always shared a precarious relationship with his mother. He learns about the hardships of parenthood and soon begins to appreciate the sacrifices his mother has made for him as a single parent. Flour Babies is a funny, thought provoking and usual story and will make for an engaging read for people of all ages. About Anna Fine Anne Fine is British writer best-known for writing children’s books. She studied politics and history and has been writing for both adults and children since 1978. She has won numerous prizes including the Guardian Award and both the Carnegie Medal and the Whitbread Award twice over. Her work is translated into over forty languages. Some of the other books authored by her are Scaredy-Cat, The Same Old Story Every Year, The Haunting of Pip Parker, and Fly in the Ointment, among others.
