Freedom: The Courage to Be Yourself, written by Osho Rajneesh, is a book that offers deeper insights for a new way of living, by embracing new sense of freedom or liberation. Summary of the Book Osho talks about three phases of freedom in this book, a part of The Insights for a New Way of Living series. The first phase of freedom he describes is the ‘freedom from’ – freedom that comes from breaking out of what he refers to as ‘psychological slavery’. This, he asserts, is imposed upon us by parents and other external forces. The second stage of freedom is explained as ‘freedom for’ – a positive sense of freedom that comes from creating or accepting something wholeheartedly. It might be art or humanitarianism, or anything larger than one’s own self. The last stage of attaining freedom is ‘just freedom’ – perhaps the toughest and the ultimate form of freedom, liberation from the self that lets an individual respond to each and every moment truthfully. All this will culminate in a person being courageous enough to just be herself/himself. About Osho Chandra Mohan Jain, also known as Acharya Rajneesh, Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, and later as Osho, was an Indian spiritual guru, mystic and new age philosopher.
