The key elements in an organisation are: people, structure, technology, and external environment in which the organisation operates. When people join together in an organisation to accomplish an objective, some kind of structure is required. People also use technology to get the job done. So there is an interaction of people, structure, and technology. In addition, these elements are influenced by the external environment, and they influence it. Planning is deciding in advance what to do and how to do. It is one of the basic managerial functions. Before doing something, the manager must formulate an idea of how to work on a particular task. Leadership is probably the most frequently studied topic in the organizational sciences. Thousands of leadership studies have been published and thousands of pages on leadership have been written in academic books and journals, business-oriented publications, and general-interest publications. The book examines the relevance of different theories and concepts organizational behaviour to the practical problems of the management of human behaviour in specific settings.
