This book describes the arch rivalry between the two, and how it sealed the fate of the British empire and India. The two of them were born in completely different setups. Winston was born to an aristocratic family in Britain, while Gandhi was born in a small town in India to a middle-class family. Through the course of this book, the readers are given insights into how they met, and the way their careers intertwined with the dawn of the twentieth century. Herman throws light on the nature of both men, indicating that they were more alike than different, and go on to become sworn enemies over the future of India. About Arthur Herman Arthur Herman is a well-known author and historian. Herman was born in the year 1956. He completed his BA from the University of Minnesota. He also holds a Master’s, and doctoral degree from Johns Hopkins University, both in History. He also spent one semester at Edinburgh University, Scotland. During the 1980s, and 90s, he taught at George Mason University, Georgetown, The University of the South, and The Catholic University of America. He is presently a lecturer at Smithsonian’s Campus on the Mall.
