Plant tubers horizontally at a depth of 2 - 4 " and 8-12” apart. It prefers well-drained soil and has weak trailing stems that can climb to 6 feet. Gloriosa can overwinter in Zone 8 if mulched. They will grown in sandy soil that has been improved with compost but they are not salt-tolerant. This vine may be weak or sparse when planted alone and should be combined with another vine on a trellis or other support.All parts are poisonous, especially tubers (thickened roots) which resemble yams. This plant is highly toxic and may be fatal if eaten.
