Geography and Rural Development is a constructive dialogue between the professional in the field of social sciences, especially geography, and practitioners in the field of rural development. All the contributors are experts in their respective fields of activity and collectively cover the gamut of various aspects of rural development. The papers in this volume were presented at a national symposium on Geography and Rural Development organised by the Department by the Department of Geography of the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (Gujarat) and sponsored by the University Grants Commission. Papers presented at the Symposium have been arranged in five parts. The papers in the first part set the conceptual frame within the parameters of which deliberations took place. The remaining three parts deal with three significant facets of rural development with which the geographers interacted viz., land use, rural economic activity, and transport and marketing. The final part discusses the role of geography and geographers in the process and geographers in the process of integrated rural development as a whole.
