Ghost World is a cult-classic graphic novel which tells the story of two teenage girls as they analyse their lives, and the lives of others in the town around them. Summary of the Book In a graphic analysis of the American cities of the 80s, Clowes's novel follows Enid Coleslaw and Rebecca Doppelmeyer as they go about their lives in a stereotypical American town full of malls, fast food restaurants and urban sprawl. The girls mock the town, feeling bored with the monotony of pop culture and the decay of society. They feel attracted to boys but also sadly toy with the idea of being lesbians. Their feelings for a quiet friend named Josh result in a love-triangle, albeit an unconsummated one. Slowly they age and the very things they found interesting about each other begin to drive them apart, and the town itself seems to change around them, becoming something more. About Daniel Clowes Daniel Clowes is an American cartoonist and screenwriter, best known for Eightball and David Boring. A graduate of the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, Clowes worked for Cracked magazine, working on their The Uggly Family segment. He has since contributed much to the artistic portrayal of the Graphic Novel medium, and has adapted Ghost World into a hit film of the same name which was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for the 2002 Academy Awards.
