He did his M.A. (Sociology and Social Anthropology) from the University of North Bengal, Darjeeling, West Bengal. He did Ph.D. from the same University. His area of interest is Industrial Sociology, Political Sociology, Himalayan Society, Sociology of Indian Tea Industry, Ecology and environment and Labour Education. He has already published seven books to his credit. Among the publications, The Himalayan Tea Plantation Workers, Sociology of Indian Tea Industry, Agony of Plantation Workers in NorthEast India, Tea Industry in India: An Introduction and SocioEconomic Life of Cinchona Plantation Workers in India are very important academic publications.
