Summary of the Book Patrick Kenzie and Angie Gennaro are hired to look into the disappearance of a young girl. The girl is Amanda McCready, whose aunt hires the investigators to take up the case despite the seeming reluctance of her husband. They discover that the girl’s mother was neglectful, leaving her alone for hours while she partied. Soon, they uncover that the mother, who is pleading with the public for the return of her child, is more interested in her own well being than the safety of her daughter.
