These guidelines have been developed for health care professionals working in the hospitals and clinical settings. The goal of the document is to educate the health care community on current infection control practices necessary for Service Delivery Points/clinics. By adopting these guidelines the standards of practice in health care will improve. The public and health care providers (nurses, doctors, laboratory technicians, waste management staff and laundry staff) will be protected by minimizing the risk of infection transmission.Infection prevention in hospitals and other healthcare settings involves every aspect of patient care, food preparation, laundry services and hospital waste management. Materials, manpower, training, policies and guidelines are needed to promote infection prevention practices. Outlined in these guidelines are many ways to improve infection prevention practices with limited sources.The intent is to provide the user a quick reference to prevent the transmission of infection to patients, visitors, health care workers and other employees associated with clinical practice at Service Delivery Points/clinics in a simple, and easy to understand format. In selecting the material, the emphasis has been on choosing practices and procedures that can be carried out even in the poorest of settings. The content has been kept as simple and practical as possible, at the same time incorporating essential information on a much larger scale. The infection prevention principles and scientific information of this manual are universally applicable.It will be very helpful for all categories of Health Care Workers, both Govt. and private in their day to day practice, training, health education and as a reference manual for Program Managers.
