Governance is purposive and development oriented administration, which concerns the improvement of quality of life of the mass people. Governance is also considered the citizen-friendly, citizen-caring, responsive, goal and result- oriented administration. It requires effective participation of people in state, civil society and private sector activities that are conducive to human development. The book, containing thirteen published articles, deals objectively with some of the burning problems/challenges/issues and perspectives of the Indian governance like social, political, economic and administrative, arising out of the failures of the state and nation-building. The book, in order to resolve the conflicts/ problems confronting the Indian governance, emphasises a major structural shift and institutional change in the existing socio-economic model of development on capitalist lines, exploitative social and property relations and the pursuit of market economy framework. The positive role of the state in resolving social, political and economic conflicts is emphasised. The book, in a nutshell, lays stress on the concept of humane governance. The book will be helpful both for academic and practical purposes of governance. It provides policy insights for the future and will be highly useful to Policy-makers, Public administrators. Political leaders, social activists, social scientists, teachers, researchers, students of social sciences and all those committed and interested in resolving the emerging problems / challenges/issues/conflicts of the Indian governance- State and nation-building. About the Author R.N. Prasad is Professor of Public Administration and Head, Department of Public Administration, North-Eastern Hill University, Mizoram Campus, Aizawal. He has been teaching Political Science and Public Administration for well over three decades. He has participated in several local regional, national and international seminars, conferences, workshops and contributed numerous research papers. He has more than seventy published research articles and book reviews in both the edited volumes and academic/ professional journals of national and international repute to his credit. He has written and edited a number of books on regional studies including Government and Politics in Mizoram; Political and Economic Development of Mizoram; Autonomy Movements in Mizoram; Landmarks; A study of public Administration Mizoram and Public Administration in North-East India. He is an Honorary Secretary of the Indian Institute of Public Administration, Mizoram Regional Branch , Aizawal and editor of its annual journal Administrative Review.
