Sponge gourd is a very common green vegetable in every Indian Household. It has many nutritional values and is now also used in natural loofah making and as a scrub. A sponge gourd is a vine and it has both male and female flowers. A female flower can be identified as it closely attaches itself to the ground. This plant requires adequate amounts of sunlight of 6 to 8 hours and consistent watering. The soil has to be moist at all times, coco peat serves the purpose of retaining moisture. These plants may attract many bugs and therefore diseases which might affect the overall yield, therefore care has to be taken and regular composting improves the quality of the yield.
