This text covers the basic physics and materials science of graphite intercalation compounds. The emphasis is on the layered or quasi-two-dimensional structure of these compounds, which provides an exciting arena for testing physical concepts in lower dimensions. The chapters in this second volume, all of which have been written by specialists in the field, cover the following topics: the theory of the electronic band structures and their experimental verification by a variety of experimental techniques, transport properties such as superconductivity and thermal conductivity, magnetic properties and phase transitions, and intercalation fibres, including their actual and potential applications.
