This tragic play tells the story of Hamlet, the Prince of Denmark through the words of the Bard of Avon. Summary of the Book Hamlet, the Prince of Denmark, is haunted by a need for vengeance. He returns home after hearing of his father’s death, only to find that his mother has already remarried. The new King is Claudius, Hamlet’s uncle. Hamlet begins to suspect that treachery is involved when a ghost claiming to be his father’s spirit informs him that Claudius conspired to kill him. Hamlet is enraged and begins to plot his uncle’s assassination. He is engulfed in the flames of vengeance and consumed by a need to exact revenge. Yet, he has no way of knowing that revenge will destroy him and his entire family. This tragedy is one of Shakespeare’s best-known plays. Shakespeare's plays have been adapted into several movies, and they are enacted in theatres around the world even to this day, centuries after his death.
