About The Author: Edward Backhouse Eastwick (1814–1883) was an English orientalist, diplomat, and Conservative MP. Born into an Anglo-Indian family, he excelled in languages and served in the Bombay Infantry before transitioning to a political role. Eastwick translated several works, including the Persian Kessahi Sanjan and authored a Sindhi vocabulary and a Hindustani grammar. He was a professor at Haileybury College and became a Fellow of the Royal Society. Later, he served as a British diplomat in Persia and Venezuela. A prolific writer, Eastwick contributed to All the Year Round and published The Kaisarnamah-i-Hind.
