A stethoscope is a medical device used to listen to internal sounds of a human or animal body. It typically has a small disc-shaped resonator that is placed against the skin, with either one or two tubes connected to two earpieces. The stethoscope is used to listen to the action of someone's heart or breathing. The word stethoscope comes from the Greek words stethos (chest or breast) and -scope (an instrument for seeing). Many medical workers wear stethoscopes around their necks.
