Health education is a profession of educating people abouthealth. Areas within this profession encompass environmentalhealth, physical health, social health, emotional health, intellectualhealth, and spiritual health.Health education can be defined as the principle by whichindividuals and groups of people, learn to behave in a mannerconducive to the promotion, maintenance, or restoration of health.However, as there are multiple definitions of health, there are alsomultiple definitions of health education. The Joint Committee onHealth Education and Promotion Terminology of 2001 definedHealth Education as “any combination of planned learningexperiences based on sound theories that provide individuals,groups, and communities the opportunity to acquire informationand the skills needed to make quality health decisions.”The World Health Organization defined Health Education as“compris[ing] [of] consciously constructed opportunities forlearning involving some form of communication designed toimprove health literacy, including improving knowledge, anddeveloping life skills which are conducive to individual andcommunity health.”
