If God is perfect and unchangeable throughout all generations,then why does the content of the church’s message change fromone generation to the next? Consider this, that “Sinners in theHands of an Angry God” by Jonathan Edwards, which wasthe catalyst for the first great awakening, and is considered bymany to be the greatest sermon in the English language, wouldprobably be rejected by many of today’s churches as beingtoo judgmental and legalistic. We should also consider thewarning by Dietrich Bonhoeffer of cheap grace which is now soprevalent in the sermons of today’s churches. If we would revisitthe messages of the churches from times past, then it might bepossible to experience the same blessings in our midst that theyonce experienced. This book has been written for Christians whofeel stagnant in their Christian experience and desire to take thenext step in their relationship with God.
