This book, of which only one volume is published, gives a summary of the rise and progress of the British in India, and their gradual change from traders to rulers. The latter half of the book is devoted to geological, ethnological, and linguistic information, along with notices on flora and fauna. There are11 chapters in this book, that offer, among other aspects, descriptions of : the rise and progress of the British, conquests of Bengal, and parts of western India, madras presidency, tipu sultan, protected states, physical aspects, geology, varieties of timber, population, different languages, etc. This volume is a reprint of the 1837 edition.
