Home and the World, or, The Home and the World, as it was originally published, is a novel written by Rabindranath Tagore. Summary of the Book This title depicts the struggle that Tagore had with himself – caught up between the ideas of Western culture and revolution against the Western culture. Nikhil is a rational man who is against violence. Sandip, on the other hand, will not let anything stand in his way from accomplishing his dreams! The story is set in the early 20th century India, depicting the political movement during the time. The book vividly describes the clash between the new and the old, idealism and realism, good and evil, and the means and the end. About Rabindranath Tagore Rabindranath Tagore was an Indian poet, writer, and philosopher. His writings are considered the epitome of Bengali literature and several of his short stories and novels have been translated into many languages and have subsequently been adapted into hit movies. He is best remembered for: Gora, Kabuliwala, and Choker Bali. He was the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize for Literature, largely for the English translation of the Gitanjali. He was also conferred a knighthood by the British Empire which he renounced to protest against the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre.
