Honour, by Elif Shafak, is the story of lives that are transformed due to honour killing. This tale of innocence and guilt, betrayal and loyalty, brings out a melancholic touch to the story of the Turkish immigrants. Summary of the Book Jamila and Pembe are sisters born in a Kurdish village. Pembe moves to London with her Turkish husband, Adem, and their children, whereas Jamila stays to become a midwife. In London, Adem abandons the family one day and the eldest son, Iskender, takes over the responsibility of the family. But Iskender soon realizes that it is possible to hurt someone even though one loves them the most, when Pembe begins an innocent affair with a man called Elias. About Elif Shafak Elif Shafak is a Turkish author, speaker, columnist and academician. She is counted among the distinguished contemporary voices of not only Turkish, but World literature, mostly because of her sophisticated feminism and brave championship of cosmopolitanism. She has been awarded the honorary distinction of Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters in the year 2010. Some of her famous books are The Forty Rules of Love, The Gaze, and The Bastard of Istanbul.
