This book traces the evolution of historical thought, with special emphasis on recent historiography. Dealing with the historical writings in ancient world such as India, China and the West, it discusses at length the medieval and modern historiography. Delving deep into the developments in historiography during the ninteenth and twentieth centuries, it describes in detail different approaches to history such as Nationalist, marxist, subaltern, oral, communal, local and regional approaches. About the Author Tej Ram Sharma is a Professor in the Department of History, University of Hyderabad. He has served the university for over two decades in various capacities such as Head of the History Department Dean School of Social  Sciences and the Member of the Executive Council. Also, Prof. Sharma has been the Co-ordinator of SAP-II, DAS-UGC, Department of History, University of Hyderabad. Prof. Sharma has participated, organized and chaired many conferences and seminars of interdisciplinary nature. He has won wide acclaim for his earlier works. He has also won many prestigious awards.
