This book basically examines the role of rural housing for decent living of population rooted in rural Uttarakhand with an analytical frame of micro-private benefits like adequacy of living space per person, the quality and durability of houses as well as of macro-public facilities of approach roads, water supply system, electricity, fuel, sanitation and public space. It also establishes a positive impact of housing ensuring utilisation of local natural and human resources besides promoting rural infrastructure, uplifting environmental conditions, providing security to rural masses and discouraging forced migration of these people with attraction of employment opportunities. About Author Bhaskar Majumder (b 1956) obtained his M.A., M.Phil and Ph.D degrees in Economics from the University of Calcutta. With the credit of teaching experience for many years in various colleges of Calcutta, he is presently working as Professor of Economics in G.B. Pant Social Science Institute. Allahabad. He has contribution of publishing eight books and sixty one research papers besides completing twelve research projects supported by Planning Commission, ICSSAR, World Bank and NTPC etc. He had been a visiting fellow at M.S.H., Paris in 2004 and is visiting faculty at Malaviya Centre For Peace Research, Banaras Hindu University since 2006.
