How To Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk is a book that provides parents with insights into better communication with their children. Summary Of The Book How To Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk is written with the intent of making parenting a less stressful and more rewarding experience. Written by two of the most renowned experts in the field of parent-children relationships, this book aims at providing solutions to the common dilemmas of parents, while dealing with their kids. This book contains vital information that will lay a foundation firm enough to sustain an individual through their parenting journey. Unlike other books in the market, this how-to guide urges the readers to read a chapter and then fill in the exercises that follow. The readers can also try the suggestions outlined and discuss their outcome with friends. This book kicks off by delving on the aspect of hurt feelings, when an individual is disregarded, with the authors using a story to explain their point. They move on to tell the readers that adults are often disrespectful and dismissive in their speaking, without even realizing it. The authors also urge parents to note down what they expect their children to do in the morning, afternoon, and evening, along with the things they shouldn’t. They also explain the common techniques incorporated by parents to get their children to do something, which include blaming, name-calling, accusing, threatening, lecturing, and sarcasm. The authors then make use of cartoons to illustrate some new methods of communication, which are entirely different from the older ones, and do not damage a child’s self-esteem. The readers are guided into alternate ways of punishment, solving family issues peacefully, expressing strong feelings without being rude, and dealing with a child’s negative emotions such as disappointment, anger, and frustration.
